Who We Are

Business, Labor and Public Leaders Working Together

In 1973, Governor Edmund G. “Pat” Brown founded CCEEB to bring together the perspectives of labor and business in pursuit of balanced and effective policy solutions.  From its beginning, CCEEB has tackled the toughest environmental problems facing California, including water quality, transportation, energy, air quality, hazardous waste and land use.

Since that time, CCEEB has expanded both its focus and its scope.  Issues like education, climate change, regional planning and environmental justice have been added to our agenda, and new voices, like those of leading environmentalists and government regulators, have found a place in our dialogue.

The CCEEB Board of Directors reflects our spirit of collaboration.  The 60-member board is split evenly among each of the council’s three core constituencies: business, organized labor, and public leaders. The board sets our mission and principles, approves new programs, provides policy guidance and determines positions on statewide ballot initiatives, and ensures the financial viability of the organization.

Because of our history of credibility, fairness and excellence, no other association enjoys the same broad spectrum of members.  CCEEB is a not-for-profit and nonpartisan association.  Our reputation rests on our ideas; CCEEB does not make political contributions of any kind.
