MISSION

The California Council for Environmental and Economic Balance (CCEEB) is a coalition of California business, labor and public leaders which strives to advance collaborative strategies for a sound economy and a healthy environment. CCEEB was created over thirty years ago by the late Governor Edmund G. "Pat" Brown because he and other key leaders believed that new thinking was needed to effectively address challenges facing California. As the only statewide private, nonprofit, nonpartisan association to represent the interests of both industry and labor, CCEEB takes pride in its ability to achieve results by bringing creative and effective solutions to the forefront of policy debate.

WHO WE ARE

Business, Labor and Public Leaders Working Together
In the breadth and diversity of its membership, the Council is unique. No other association active in California's environmental policy arena encompasses such a wide range of interested stakeholders. Our membership includes a broad spectrum of business sectors, organized labor, and key public and civic leaders. Members share the mission of creating a California where harmonizing economic growth and environmental protection is not only a vision, but a reality. CCEEB targets issues that concern our members most. Having the flexibility to tackle priorities as they emerge is a key to our success.

Board of Directors
CCEEB's Board of Directors represents the tripartite nature of our coalition. The 60 member Board includes 20 seats for each of the Council's three constituencies: business, organized labor and public representatives. We represent not just a few narrow sectors of the economy, but a broad spectrum of California labor and business. This gives us both the perspective and the credibility needed to achieve balanced solutions to critical issues.

The Board is responsible for setting CCEEB's mission and programs, providing policy guidance, determining positions on statewide ballot initiatives, working with staff and consultants on strategy, and ensuring the financial viability of our nonprofit coalition.

CCEEB Members
CCEEB membership offers different levels of participation in order to meet the needs of our diverse constituencies. All members of CCEEB are general members. In addition to general membership, members may also choose to join one or several policy projects. These projects have separate dues structures and operate within the larger CCEEB umbrella to provide greater focus and targeted responses on specific issue areas.

General Membership
Specific achievements of individual CCEEB projects are made possible by the credibility and expertise of the CCEEB coalition as a whole. CCEEB's track record of success is based on our delivery of a unique core of general member services. General membership is valuable because:

  • it provides access to the strength and diversity of the CCEEB coalition,
  • it leverages the resources and effectiveness of individual members and their staffs, and
  • it opens the door to the network of public policy opinion leaders.
CCEEB's effective working relationships with key legislators, top officials in the executive branch, management and staff of federal, state and local regulatory agencies, environmental groups, community groups and others ensures that our members' voices are heard in Sacramento and elsewhere in the state.

CCEEB's members have the best information available on emerging trends in policy and politics. Up do date sophisticated information keeps our members on the cutting edge of policy development.

CCEEB members have the opportunity to make a difference for California. Through participation in our coalition, general members contribute directly to the formation of actual policies and programs to improve California for the next generation.

PROJECT MEMBERSHIP

CCEEB project membership provides both the opportunity and the tools that allow participants to actively shape public policy decisions and leverage their own limited resources. Our projects are successful because our focus is concentrated. We address and target highest priority issues identified by our members.

CCEEB projects are hands on efforts. Members attend monthly meetings to review and analyze key issues. They work with other members, staff and expert consultants to craft responses and proactive proposals that reflect their organization's concerns and interests. Members share viewpoints with key elected officials and regulatory agency leaders to present their needs and concerns and gain insights about emerging trends. By working with the CCEEB coalition and utilizing CCEEB's credibility and influence, members achieve a significant leveraging of their own resources. The result is savings that go right to the bottom line.

Our coalitions' strength lies in the unique expertise and resources that our members, board, staff and consultants bring to the table. We work together to define issues and create answers. Our projects provide a forum where members can resolve differences, build alliances and forge cooperative solutions to California's pressing problems. CCEEB's effectiveness on the issues it addresses is unmatched.

BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP

In brief, here are a few reasons why membership in CCEEB is a worthwhile investment:

  • We target issues that concern our members most. As the climate shifts, so do our objectives. Having the flexibility to tackle priorities as they emerge is a key to our success.

  • In the breadth and diversity of its membership, the Council is unique. No other trade association active in California's environmental policy arena encompasses such a wide range of interests. Our Board of Directors is comprised of labor, business, and public representatives. We represent not just a few narrow sectors of the economy, but a broad spectrum of California business and labor. This gives us both the perspective and the credibility needed to achieve balanced solutions to critical issues.

  • Through the Council's working committees, our members join to discuss and take action on issues of mutual concern. Our activities also give members a line of communication to legislators and key regulatory groups in California, as well as local elected officials, environmental organizations, and community groups in most urban regions of the state.

  • The Council expands your own staff resources. Our work can augment your own organizational efforts as we advocate our positions on legislative and regulatory issues, marshal political and technical support, and communicate with decision makers. Our active working committees, written communications, conferences, seminars, and meetings are a valuable source of information and up-to-date intelligence as well as the place we collaborate together in developing our advocacy positions.
It is easy to see why CCEEB is a worthwhile investment. Join CCEEB today!
