Environmental Justice
Are some people more impacted by pollution – and thus at greater risk – than others? Why do environmental laws seem to leave them behind? And what can business do beyond “full compliance”? These are just a few of the questions raised within the context of environmental justice.
CCEEB supports the fair treatment of all people and the right to a healthy environment. Not all communities in California share equally in the benefits from environmental protection. Thus, even with the most stringent environmental laws in the world, some California communities remain at risk. Our goal is to help businesses and industry become proactive partners in addressing environmental justice concerns and in enhancing the health of local communities.
CCEEB participates in a number of regulatory forums on environmental justice, such as the Cal/EPA Environmental Justice Advisory Committee, the OEHHA Cumulative Impacts and Precautionary Approaches work group, the Bay Area air district's task force on the Community Air Risk Evaluation program, and the South Coast air district's technical advisory group on the Multiple Air Toxics Exposure Study III.
CCEEB projects:
- Air Quality and Transportation -- lead project for cumulative impacts and precautionary approaches, permitting
- Bay Area Partnership -- local air district efforts
- Public Policy Project -- career technical education and green jobs
- South Coast Air Project -- local air district efforts
- Waste and Water Quality -- green chemistry and precautionary approaches
