Governance
Environmental policy doesn’t happen in a bubble. At times, CCEEB and its board of directors will take public stances on issues that fall outside of the environmental arena. This generally happens when issues of extraordinary importance arise that will significantly affect the environment, public health, or the economy.
Other issues constantly interact with environmental policy, whether for good or bad. Budget deficits, for example, constrain spending on environmental programs while surpluses allow for much needed investment in infrastructure and conservation. Similarly, governance reforms often determine where, when and by whom decisions like land use and transportation planning will occur.
Over the years, some of the issues CCEEB has addressed include:
- K-12 funding and career technical education
- Regionalism, “smart growth” and land use and planning
- Health care reform
- Redistricting and electoral reform
- Fiscal policy and tax reform
- Infrastructure investment, bond propositions and public-private partnerships
