Transportation
CCEEB members lay the roadways, build the vehicles, run the trains and transit, and provide the energy resources that move all Californians and our economy from day to day. Transportation is of direct interest. CCEEB looks for ways to ease congestion and improve transportation systems for people and goods.
CCEEB has long been concerned about the environmental impact of transportation, particularly the affect on air quality and public health. On-road and off-road mobile sources account for nearly 99% of diesel particulate emissions, 86% of NOx emissions, and 59% of SOx emissions in California. More needs to be done so that mobile sources assume a fair share of the burden for reductions in air pollution and energy use. Incentive programs that create emission reduction credits from mobile sources are an important and cost-effective way to improve air quality and leverage private investment in better transportation systems.
