BACKGROUND
Public Policy Project is a collaboration of business, labor and public leaders committed to a future that integrates economic and environmental sustainability with opportunities for all Californians. Public Policy Project focuses on economic development through social and physical infrastructure development in government and in the private sector, smart growth, local and state fiscal accountability, stewardship of our natural resources and educational achievement. Our members place a high value on the use of the consensus building process to develop innovative proposals. The project also actively engages in the public policy process to ensure that California leads the industrialized world in achieving greater prosperity while ensuring the fair treatment of all peoples and protecting the environment.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES
Work to improve the means by which California invests in its future and budgets its public dollars. To this end, State revenue and expenditures must be balanced such that governmental decisions are predictable.

Advocate legislation and administrative actions that strengthen the California economy through innovative infrastructure financing, as well as needed reforms in the areas of land use and planning, natural resources, governance and budgeting.

Work in coordination with other groups to advocate policies that support the growth of the economy, the conservation of the environment, and support the diversity of our society and natural world.

Initiate efforts to integrate the protection and utilization of our natural resources and wildlife in a manner that promotes sustainability and stimulates economic diversification.

Initiate and/or respond to legislative, ballot and other proposals to promote Public Policy Project’s principles and to advance the Project’s agenda for comprehensive improvement in California’s economic condition and quality of life.

2006 AGENDA
